Kitchen Trends in Remodeling

July 20, 2010

The National Association of Home Builders’ Research Center conducted its annual Consumer Practice Survey last year to find out some numbers on the popular kitchen remodeling trends.  Shockingly, despite the dismal condition of the economy, homeowners continued to spend top-dollar for their top-notch kitchens.  In planning your new kitchen remodel with Grosser, take into account some of these staggering numbers when choosing your materials.  From 2005, the percentage of people choosing laminate countertops fell almost 20 percent, yet granite’s installation rate grew 10 percent making it the most popular material in kitchen remodels.  Other countertops gaining popularity over the past couple years were butcher block and natural stone.  Ceramic tile use dropped to only 4 percent, while quartz remained an afterthought in most homes, only holding 6 percent of the market share.    In terms of cabinets, the study shows consumers are now choosing more sleek, less expensive wooden alternatives to the traditional raised-panel designs.  Although the overall number of households purchasing cabinets has decreased, wood is not surprisingly the most popular material used.  Only 10 percent of the general share belongs to other materials chosen by the unconventional homeowners.  Follow the leader or be a trendsetter.  Either way, Grosser and Co. will help guide you to your dream kitchen.
