Kitchen Trends in Remodeling
July 20, 2010The National Association of Home Builders’ Research Center conducted its annual Consumer Practice Survey last year to find out some numbers on the popular kitchen remodeling trends. Shockingly, despite the dismal condition of the economy, homeowners continued to spend top-dollar for their top-notch kitchens. In planning your new kitchen remodel with Grosser, take into account some of these staggering numbers when choosing your materials. From 2005, the percentage of people choosing laminate countertops fell almost 20 percent, yet granite’s installation rate grew 10 percent making it the most popular material in kitchen remodels. Other countertops gaining popularity over the past couple years were butcher block and natural stone. Ceramic tile use dropped to only 4 percent, while quartz remained an afterthought in most homes, only holding 6 percent of the market share. In terms of cabinets, the study shows consumers are now choosing more sleek, less expensive wooden alternatives to the traditional raised-panel designs. Although the overall number of households purchasing cabinets has decreased, wood is not surprisingly the most popular material used. Only 10 percent of the general share belongs to other materials chosen by the unconventional homeowners. Follow the leader or be a trendsetter. Either way, Grosser and Co. will help guide you to your dream kitchen.
What is a Certified Graduate Remodeler?
July 14, 2010A Certified Graduate Remodeler is a standout in the crowded marketplace of construction. With this professional title, remodelers guarantee to operate with an emphasis on business management skills, upholding a reputation as an industry leader. Using a CGR ensures that your project will be completed with the highest levels of quality and professionalism. All remodelers are required to meet and maintain high standards of business practice and continue a reputation for successful project management. All applicants to the program must be in the business of remodeling for five years before beginning the process for certification by the National Association of Home Builders, and Grosser and Company has been in business for over 34 years.
The first requirement for earning the CGR label is to take the PREP (Professional Remodelers Experience Profile) test. This assessment measures knowledge and experience in the five core areas of remodeling business management: marketing and sales, business administration, design estimating and job cost, project organization, and contract, liability, and risk management. Upon completion of this examination, the remodeler must then take all necessary courses from a listing based on the PREP results. Every three years with the certification, the remodeler must invest in twelve hours of continuing education in the building industry.
This special designation was created to help identify leaders who demonstrate expertise and professionalism in the remodeling industry. We want to be your trusted remodeler!

Sustainability and Functionality
July 7, 2010Home buyers and home remodelers today are looking for functionality with the added bonus of sustainability. Taking simple things into consideration when building on an addition or renovating can make a huge difference. Window placement is not only crucial to the overall flow of any room, but can also help homes be beneficially warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. According to a Market Watch report, many people are choosing number of outlets, recycling receptacles, and larger pantries as top priorities when designing their kitchen. Times have changed since choosing between granite and marble was the owners’ biggest dilemma! Grosser & Co. can assist you in making your space more efficient and more practically fitted to your everyday needs.

Five Popular Kitchen Remodel Trends
July 7, 2010
- Furniture style cabinets
- Homeowners are looking for a more creative look, with varying heights and crown molding. Trends even include adding trim to the bottom of the cabinets.
- Island
- What better way to bring the family together than to add a place to sit and socialize while cooking? Islands are also great eating areas and convenient for serving. By painting the base or adding a contrasting surface, it can become an eye-catching focal point.
- Glass front / lit cabinets
- The glass on the door opens up the room and allows you to display collectibles and fun decorative pieces.
- Bronze faucets
- If the color complements the overall theme of your home, it might be a perfect unexpected way to enhance the character of the kitchen.
- Horizontal tile
- The horizontal lines of the tile contrast with the vertical lines of cabinets and tall appliances to not only stimulate the eye, but also add visual appeal to the space.
The kitchen is generally the focus of all major renovating projects. Whatever overall theme you decide for your remodel, don’t be afraid to step outside of the box and follow your instincts. Grosser & Co. will work with your ideas to turn your visions into a reality!
